New Dating App Pushes Age Gap by Only Allowing Matches With People 20 Years Older or Younger
Dating someone with a few years in age difference isn’t a big deal to most, but would you restrict your potential partners to those who were born two decades before or after you? New matchmaking website 20 Dating has set out to help people do just that.
Touted by creator David Minns as the “world’s first extreme age gap dating site,” 20 Dating makes radical connections by only matching users with potential partners within a 20-year age gap. The site and app are free by only requiring an email address to sign-up, but don’t expect to start ferociously swiping left and right on the entire pool of singles right away. Once inside, all users with the appropriate age gap can instantly contact one another, but that 20-year distinction is a strict one.
“You cannot even take a sneaky look at someone with a 19-year gap, joked Minns in a recent interview. “It’s like being socially distanced by 20 years!”
To put it mildly, that’s more of a generation gap — but we’re not here to judge! According to the site’s FAQ, 20 Dating is meant to break the stigma of relationships with extreme age differences by setting up a safe space where everyone is on the same page.
“Trying to connect with someone more than 20 years older or younger on a product like Tinder or Bumble is, at best, going to end up with a lot of rejection,” said Minns. “[But] everyone knows where they stand on 20.”
Another great thing about 20 Dating? It openly advertises itself as inclusive, stating on its site that it welcomes “all genders and sexualities, female, male, and transgender people.” That inclusivity should come as no surprise, however, as Minns has become known for catering to niche dating apps. He also created Butterfly, a dating app aimed at encouraging a respectful dating experience within the transgender community without allowing for the fetishization that is often seen in similar apps. He also created Big One and Dinky One for men whose member… ship (you got it, right?) lies on one end of the size spectrum or the other.
“Smaller guys can use Dinky One privately and date outside of their usual network,” Minns said earlier this year. “Everyone understands the situation in advance, allowing couples to focus on getting to know each other and dating.”
Users of Minns’ dating apps can take advantage of discreet options to help keep their private lives as protected as they’d like. These include anonymous usage, optional pictures, approximate GPS locations and the automatic erasure of old messages.
